Persuasion is possibly my favorite Austen novel, so when I heard that this was loosely based on it, I had to pick it up. I never really expect much from Austen adaptations and Diana Peterfreund has been hit or miss with me, but this was a really great read. I enjoyed the world Peterfreund built for us, this glimpse of a civilization ravaged by technology and retreating back to more primitive times. This book has the potential to be very thought provoking, revolving around the question on how far mankind should take technology, and what it means to live a simpler life.
Basically, I came for the romance and stayed for the smattering of philosophy. I love a good romance, but the value of this book was in the warring ideologies.
